How Kirulapana Get Its Name

Kirulapana, Colombo 06 is more or less a balance between a commercial and residential area. The name sounds a bit awkward to pronounce at least to some!

It is reported that a very long time ago at the time of the Kotte kingdom people traversing to Kotte back and forth would first locate the throne (Kirula) when they arrive at the present-day kirulapana. So for the ones who travelled in the direction randomly named the place as "Kirala-pene-thena" or the place where the Kotte throne can be seen. 

As time went on the name evolved to what we call today as Kirulapana.
